About the Author
Zafar Khan Niazi, retired as Station Director (Grade 20) from Radio Pakistan Islamabad in 2006. Born on 25 August 1946 in Duad Khel, Mianwali, a day and a year before Pakistan’s independence, he iwas the son of Surat Khan Niazi. A producer, playwright, and well-known poet, he authored several books.
He earned his BSc in Physics and Mathematics from Government College Mianwali (1966) and an MSc in Mathematics from Punjab University (1969). He began his career with Radio Pakistan in 1981 as a producer in Quetta, serving there until 1984. Over the years, he held key roles such as Senior Producer in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Programme Manager for External & World Service, Deputy Controller, and Station Director in D.I. Khan, Rawalpindi, and finally Trarkhel, Azad Kashmir. He also served as Chief Editor of Baang, a magazine focused on the Kashmir issue.
Zafar Khan believed in producing content that resonated with the masses. He wrote several acclaimed plays, including Jindri Nal Jehan (PTV, 2010), Mustaqbil (NTM, 1997–98, on child labour), and Shaphol (PTV Quetta, 1978–79).
As a writer and poet, his first book Chaukor Pehayay (1982) featured mini stories and aphorisms. Other notable works include Khawab Kanaray (1992), Khawabshar (1997), Paewand (2004), and Baraf Poosh Chamni (2012), a translation project for the National Book Foundation.
Proud of his Mianwali roots, Zafar Khan Niazi is deeply loved by his community and is remembered as a dedicated and compassionate individual.
